60+ WAYS I GOT FUNNIER
AND YOU CAN, TOO!
“You are a VERY FUNNY magician!”
Alyson Hannigan
“Having seen Doc headline a comedy club: he squeezes every juicy drop of laughter out of everything he does. The man is is funny and knows how to integrate comedy into a variety act without diluting the impact of the magic.”
Nathan Coe Marsh
“Doc Dixon is funny. Not “recite the jokes I took from someone else’s set” funny. He’s “pen-to-paper, write 20 different versions of a joke and delete as many words as possible” funny. He’s the kind of funny who knows why “sandwich” is funnier than “cheeseburger,” and how to raise his eyebrows to just the right millimeter to convey comedic irritation. He’s also the kind of funny who’ll give me guff for using a metric unit (#Murica). Heck… he’ll give me “guff.” That alone should tell you everything you need to know. Doc Dixon is a real-deal, honest-to-goodness comedy magician. Two words. Equal weight. Listen to him.”
Michael Misko
Thanks to the folks above testifying to my comedy bonafides. Here’s how I’d express it:
Here’s a deeper look & sneak peek into Get Funnier
As I type this I’m on a cruise ship gig off the coast of Alaska.
Great gig.
Great theater.
Great audiences.
I’m new to this cruise line, having worked with them for the first time in February 2025 on a two week contract. After my first week of performances I was offered 14 weeks of shows with them. That’s a huge chunk of work. Why were they so kind to me?
Because my show is funny.
I don’t have big illusions. All my props fit in my carryon case.
My magic is classics or original routines based on classics.
It’s the funny.
It wasn’t always that way. Oh noooooo. Decades ago, instead of laughs, it was laughable. It sucked with the power of a black hole in deep space. Ugh. But I worked at it and got funnier. A lot funnier.
It wasn’t without hurdles and detours, but I got there. To the Land of Funny.
